I am part of JAMM's, a no nonsense only momsense network which empowers woman in Mumbai.
Every year JAMM's takes up a social initiative apart from the various seminars, workshops and events which are most times Free.
So this year it has taken up PAWsitive Foster
About PAWsitive Foster:
In a corner of Karjat is 'Probably Paradise' - a home for animals that no one wants anymore – abandoned dogs, stray cats, hurt donkeys and maimed horses, even a pig or two. 65 years old Roxanne Davur handles the entire operation single handedly with some help from the local villagers. Her’s is a labour of love with no expectations – she doesn’t even expect the animals to like her – they have free will and their own unique personalities which she respects. “Even the rats know I won’t hurt them and take me for granted,” she jokes 🐭
Running the place is a huge expense, “I beg, I bargain and hunt for wholesale discounts,” she says as she rattles off the requirements that range from food, medications, salary to medical officer and local helpers, repairs to animal shelters. Space is another issue and she also needs to build a new shed to house more animals, but as she says, “as long as there is place in my heart, I can always make space in the house, on my bed, on the sofa….” 🏡
Certainly Roxanne is a mother with a large heart who needs support from all those who believe that animals have as much right to live with dignity as humans 🙏
JAMM's Network (multi award winning Mom's community in Mumbai) has launched the PAWsitive Foster social initiative to raise funds for this animal hospice which will go towards some of the recurring expenses (Food & Medical especially) that Roxanne has to cope with. The 'Mast Santa' social campaign done in Dec 2015 donated unused handbags with goodies to homeless women. 'Step-Up' was their April 2016 social initiative where 730 underprivileged children received footwear and over 910 sarees were collected & donated to less fortunate women during their Nov 2016 social drive.
