Book Review: Cami and Wyatt Share the Christmas Spirit by Stacy C. Bauer and Illustrated by Rebecca Sinclair

Good day!

Another Christmas Book we read before Christmas.
This is Book 5 from the Cami Kangaroo and Wyatt  Book Series. Christmas Season is here and Cami and Wyatt are learning to understand and Share the Christmas Spirit.

A warm hearted book which subtly shows what is the True meaning of Christmas.

Story:

Cami and Wyatt are excited about Christmas which is 17 days away. They are making a list of toys & books they want from Santa. They met their new neighbours, Violet and Chester Koala in the school bus. They try to talk to them, invite them to eat lunch and for playing during recess. But Violet and Chester seem distant and ignore the Kangaroo siblings. At home they mention this to their parents. Their parents point out the new neighbours may be shy but still try to be friendly with them. When their parents visit the Koala family to share their Christmas cookies, they get to know the reason for the new neighbours not being friendly. The Koala family is going through a hard time.

Cami and Wyatt realise they have been talking so much about gifts and what they want for Christmas, that they have made the Koala siblings feel embarrased. They want Christmas to be fun for their friends too.

So the Kangaroo family goes a step further in making the Koala family feel welcome and loved as friends. Soon both families are decorating Ginger bread houses, making cookies, creating cards, helping at church, going caroling, watching the town tree lighting up etc. This Christmas is getting more fun for the Cami and Wyatt.

They soon realize that Christmas means being with family, friends and spreading joy.

What I liked:

A big story in a small book. A deep meaning and life lesson imparting book.

It just doesnt give a moral lesson. There are many to learn as you read the book.

Be kind. Share. Include others in your circle. Thinking about helping others first. Gratitude. Empathy. Enjoy making hand made things. Financial unstability. Hardships.

Family, Friendship, love and gratitude are important factors to hold close in life. This is highlighted in a simple and lovely way in the story.

No money or materialistic things can make Christmas special. The true meaning of Christmas spirit weaved beautifully in the story.

Lovely illustrations. The illustrations draw your attention to the little details about the story. It made it easy to imagine the story in your head. My 3 yr old wasnt aware of Koalas. The illustrations gave her a correct picture.

We enjoyed knowing about all the things you do before Christmas. Actually there is a lot to do! This story was a sneak peek into the Christmas festival for us.

I liked how Cami and Wyatt as kids are shown as contributing to each of these activities. Its Family Team effort.

Kudos to the Author for showing that hardships or tough times need not be carried around like a burden all the time. You can still enjoy life. When you do that, you get over your tough times faster. So the transformation of the Koala family from sad to happy was seen with words and illustrations. My kids were relieved to see that.

My heart was all fuzzy when reading out the book to my kids. I thought its a little mauture for my 3 & 7 yr old kids. But they surprised me by saying they were glad the Koala family was happy in the end and they got more friends. Kids do blow our minds at how simply they explain certain ideas.

Do check the Christmas Acts of Kindness list at the end of the book. These are simple things you can do to help and also enjoy Christmas. I loved most of them. Doable anytime of the year too.

What I wanted more:

Nothing. Thank you for writing this book and illustrating it. Me & my kids enjoyed it. Look forward to read more books from the series.
