I recently got to know about Culture Groove Kids from my Instagram friends. This channel showcases Books, Videos, Stories about various Indian Festivals and the stories behind them.

Coincidentally, last month they had a Free Kindle Download offer happening.
I downloaded Let's Celebrate Krishna's Birthday! and Let's Celebrate Ganesha's Birthday! for Free.
Yesterday night I read out the book to my kids. I am super glad I downloaded these books and my kids are thrilled to meet Mala & Neel.

Story:

Maya and Neel are twin brother and sister. The live in Chicago. They love to travel with their Squirrel friend Chintu and go on many adventures. This time they have reached Mathura. They go and meet their Bua (aunt) in Mathura. She shows them how the Festival of Janmashtami is celebrated through out India.

Do you know what is Janmashtami? How does each state celebrate this festival? What is the significance of this festival? Would you love to know the different stories about this festival?

What I liked:

As mentioned in the Book blurb, these books highlight the significance and story about the festivals. But in a child friendly manner.

In this book Let's Celebrate Krishna's Birthday!, the birth of Krishna is explained without highlighting the gory details of Kansa, Krishna's mama and why he wants to kill Krishna. 

The book takes us on a journey with Maya, Neel, Chintu and their Bua exploring how the festival of Krishna's Birthday is celebrated in different part of India. The book showcases the current scenario and then describes the Story part with sections like Story Time, Info Zoom.

My 7 yr old son pointed out how most of the gory details are missing which he has seen in other books and animated movies about Krishna, But it was perfect for my 3 yr old daughter.
Wish I had got these books when my son was a toddler. I used to be perplexed about explaining to him death, Gods and demons, curses, wrong doings of Gods etc when he was 2-3 years old. 

I liked the Pronunciation Guide at the back cover and Note to parents. 
I could quiz my kids with the Info Recap on how much they understood the story.

As mentioned in the Note to Parents, the Authors have taken care to make the book suitable for young readers. The language is good and simple. The illustrations are clear and in vibrant colors. 

The story flow and details mentioned are consistent without making it preachy or just theory.

What I wanted more:

Slight bigger Chintu in the illustration ;). My daughter was hunting for Chintu the Squirrel in each page.
